Generally, eLearning (or e-learning) consists in delivery of a learning, training or education program by electronic means. eLearning involves the use of a computer or electronic device to provide training, educational or learning material.

eLearning is enabled learning, learning in a virtual world where technology merges with human creativity to accelerate and leverage the rapid development and application of deep knowledge.

eLearning covers a wide set of applications and processes such as Web based learning, computer based learning, virtual classrooms, and digital collaboration. It includes the delivery of content via Internet, intranet/extranet (LAN/WAN), audio and videotape, satellite broadcast, interactive TV, and CD-ROM.

Generally, eLearning positives refer to anytime, anywhere access to learning (not entirely true), cost reductions, reaching larger markets, more effective learning, personalized instruction, flexibility, etc.

Negatives often highlighted are social disconnection, authentic assessment, teaching skills (compared to theory) online, not as effective as classsrooms, etc.
